08 August 2021 Expats

The government’s decision to not renew work permits for expatriates who have reached the age of 60 with no college degree, only includes employees of the private sector not the government sector employees, Al Qabas reported quoting sources.

The sources told the daily that the decision not to renew the working permit for the mentioned category, and any subsequent exception to this decision, such as paying a fee of KD 2000 annually, if issued, will not include employees of the government sector who have reached or exceeded 60 years because they do not have work permits issued to them.

The sources added that the number of employees in the government sector of this age group according to the latest labor market statistics issued by the Central Administration of Statistics is about 6,000 male and female employees of all qualifications, of whom approximately 1,800 are over 65 years old. The retirement age in the government sector is 65. years, and in some sectors 75 years.

On the other hand, and since the 60’s decision came into effect on January 1, the problems of the sixties residing in the country who hold a high school diploma and below have begun to exacerbate with the Manpower Authority, which has more than once announced upcoming amendments to the decision, with the Ministry of Interior.

Although there are no decisions or circulars issued or announced by the Ministry of Interior forbidding the transfer or transfer of the mother or father from this segment to the children, many of the transactions submitted are rejected without giving any reasons.

Residents reported that they recently referred to the General Administration of Residency Affairs to transfer the visa of a mother or father who had two work permits to their sponsorship, but their requests were rejected without any reason, which led them to fines and violations.
