Global Inflation And Living Allowance Costs Are Linked

27 March 2022 Kuwait

MPs Abdulaziz Al-Saqaabi, Bader Al-Mullah, Muhannad Al-Sayer, Hassan Jawhar, and Osama Al-Shaheen have introduced a bill to amend National Assembly Law No. 12/ 1963, removing the second paragraph of Article 97, which requires all bills to be referred to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee before being forwarded to the relevant committees.

The second paragraph, according to these MPs, slows bill ratification, significantly impacting the legislative process. They pointed out that the Assembly's Secretariat General can edit bills and assure their constitutionality, so referring them to the Legal and Legislative Affairs Committee before submitting them to the relevant committees is no longer essential. MP Farz Al-Daihani, on the other hand, has proposed that the cost of living stipend, which is presently KD120, be based on international inflation rates.

In his questions to Minister of Health Dr. Khalid Al-Saeed, MP Osama Al-Shaheen noted the first article of Amiri Decree 17/ 2017 on prioritizing the offspring of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis — after nationals — in the recruiting process. He wants to know how many offspring of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis have worked at the ministry and its subsidiaries since the order was issued until now.
