Gcc Conference Calls For Promoting Occupational Health, Safety Concepts
A GCC conference on Friday called for implementing national policies, strategies and plans on occupational health and safety.
The fifth GCC conference on occupational health and safety, that started on Tuesday, was organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the health ministries of the GCC member states.
The recommendations sum up the outcome of the conference seeking to apply, and promote, occupational health in the GCC countries, said president of the conference Dr. Ahmad Al-Shatti. Al-Shatti stressed the necessity of linking the occupational health strategies to the Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
He noted that the conference also called for drawing up a plan of the hazards of occupational health, besides regularly following up the application of the relevant GCC strategy and the guidelines of the international conventions on chronic noncommunicable diseases.
In addition, participants stressed the need to set up industrial medical centers and form task teams at the occupational health departments in the GCC states.
The would-be centers will analyze the hazards of occupational health and identify work priorities, which is expected to help a lot to counter problems, Al-Shatti noted
