‘front-liners’ Reward Draws Scorn
The government institutions were quick to “justify” their statements of rewarding the front line workers, amid popular dissatisfaction with what was called an unjustified exaggeration in numbers, as well as paying those who have nothing to do with fighting the epidemic on the front lines.
In this context, the Public Authority for the Care of Printing the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and their sciences denied that it was classified among the front-line workers during the current health crisis that the country was exposed to due to the emerging corona virus (COVID-19). The authority’s spokesman, Mubarak Al-Hayyan, told the Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) yesterday that the authority was classified according to the decision of the Council of Ministers among the workers in the support ranks (the third category) and not as it was recently reported that it is classified within the front rows.
Explained
Al-Hayyan explained the authority has fulfilled its duty entrusted to it during the current crisis, indicating that it has implemented all the necessary requirements and tasks during the period of suspension of government work. He stated the authority “proposed to give 30 employees 9,750 dinars only, based on the decision of the Council of Ministers, which was in all honesty and responsibility and according to the decisions of the organization.
Meanwhile, the Public Authority for People with Disabilities stated that since a decision to stop work in government agencies was issued after the outbreak of the corona epidemic, a group of employees were still reporting for work in a number of departments, and said the authority is keen to protect public money to the extent it is also keen to reward its employees who contributed to fighting the virus to protect the rights of the persons with disabilities.
The authority in a statement identified the departments that were active during the pandemic – Rehabilitation Medical Center Department, the Handicapped Care Department and the General Services Department, pointing out that the Medical Center is a hospital that houses persons with disabilities and put their number at approximately 570, and the medical and paramedical staff and nurses look after their welfare. The others are the physiotherapists and social supervisors, as they provide all medical and paramedical services, similar to what is happening at the Ministry of Health.
