09 February 2022 Kuwait

The High Court in Kuwait City has acquitted a government employee and a Kuwaiti civilian accused of usurping KD 193,000 and collaborating in a crime, according to the Al-Seyassah newspaper. According to the case file, the Public Prosecution accused one of the defendants of embezzling KD 193,000 belonging to his employer in his role as a public employee in the Budget Control Department of the Administrative Affairs Department of the Ministry of Interior. He had provided false invoices and doctored other financial documents in such a way that they were allowed to take the money.

Lawyers Fahad Al-Hadiya and Abdullah Matar, who represented two of the defendants in court, maintained that the components of involvement in the crime of forgery and the appropriation of public funds against the defendants were not accessible. They said the claims lacked sufficient proof, which is always in the accused's favor.
