Four Kuwaitis Sent To Prison For Defaming The Crown Prince
Four citizens were arrested for posting a video defaming the Kuwaiti Crown Prince Shaikh Nawaf Al-Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The Public Prosecution questioned the suspects over the defamatory video recording they had posted online and remanded them in custody. The Internal State Security Agency identified the four citizens and launched an inquiry into a fifth suspect who is still on the run. The detained suspects, who are aged 30 to 40 years, work at the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of Education and the General Directorate for Customs. The suspects, who hold government positions, confessed to preparing the defamatory video during the opening of the Gulf Cup of Nations (Khaleeji 23), before posting the recording online. The Ministry of Information question TV directors, photographers, camera operators and technicians in charge of transmitting the ceremony and concluded that the controversial video had not been leaked through the stadium VIP lounge or the TV transmission circuits. The investigation revealed that the suspects had edited the video, using special programmes, before posting it on social media. The fifth suspect has apparently succeeded in leaving Kuwait though land exit points. The Kuwaiti authorities have already launched a procedure to arrest the fugitive abroad and extradite him to face legal action
