17 February 2022 Crime News

According to police reports, four Asian expats were arrested in Al Ahmadi, a district in the south governorate of Kuwait, for operating an illegal alcohol plant.

As reported by the Interior Ministry's Security Media Department, the men, who are Asian nationals, were arrested with locally produced alcohol bottles ready for sale.

It added without further explanation, "They have also been referred to the relevant authorities for the necessary procedures."

Kuwaiti authorities have been cracking down on illegal alcohol plants in the country in recent months, including several arrests and hauls.

An anti-drug squad soldier was found operating one such plant when Kuwaiti police raided it last December, local media reported.

As Al Anba news-paper reported at the time, the 55-year-old suspect was an employee of General Directorate of Narcotics Control and two Nepalese family members were captured after the raid on Al Sulaibiya, a makeshift factory situated in the Al Jahra governorate.

During the raid, distillation equipment and bottles of alcohol were seized.

Local media reported that Kuwaiti police raided an alcohol factory in Al Farwaniyah a month earlier, searching for illegal expatriates.

Along with the alcohol, tools and equipment used to manufacture alcohol were seized before they could be sold illicitly.
