Foreign Students Will Be Accepted For The First Time At Kuwait University

University Council members at Kuwait University have approved the first open admissions to the College of Administrative Sciences and the College of Engineering and Petroleum for foreign students. Al-Anba daily reports that foreign students will be admitted in different disciplines based on rules laid down by the university's Vice President, who proposes the list of rules. Foreign students' courses cost KD 100 for one subject/unit.

As a first step, the council approved accepting foreign students from inside Kuwait, and students from outside Kuwait will be considered as a second step. According to the proposal submitted by the Deanship of Admission and Registration to accept students applying for admission to Kuwait University for the first semester of 2022/2023, the council approved the admission of 7,953 males and females.

165 seats are available in Medicine, 60 in Dentistry, 100 in Pharmacy, 310 in Allied Medical Sciences, 60 in Public Health, 450 in Law, 150 in Architecture, 1,253 in Engineering, 800 in Life Sciences, 950 in Administrative Sciences, as well as Arts, 950 in Education, 500 in Social Sciences, and 250 in Sharia and Islamic Studies.

Sources reported that the University Council had approved the National Union of Kuwait University Students' proposal to cancel the aptitude test requirement for admission to the College of Engineering and Petroleum. It is reported in the Al-Seyassah daily that Kuwait University has denied that aptitude tests in English and Mathematics will be canceled for admission to its colleges of Engineering, Petroleum, and Administrative Sciences.

Dr Mishaal Al-Gharaballi, acting Dean of Admissions and Registration, explained that the rumor is false. According to him, admission to the College of Engineering and Petroleum remains based on success on English and Mathematics academic ability tests. Additionally, the University Council has approved the cancellation of the requirement of a grade point average of 78 percent or higher in order to be admitted to other colleges.
