Food Ration Cards For 60,000 Domestic Workers To Be Canceled

27 December 2020 Information

The Ministry of Trade announced that they will be canceling 60,000 food ration cards of domestic workers that are no longer working under their employers as of the beginning of January, Al-Rai reported.

According to the reports 60000 workers would be covered under this decision and this decision would save 4.5 million dinars annually.

A source told the daily that some of the domestic workers have left the country and their sponsors have not updated their ration cards so they kept getting an extra share even though the domestic worker no longer is employed by them.

Minister of State for Economic Affairs, Faisal Al Medlej, pointed out that domestic workers get the exact same benefits from the food ration card compared to Kuwaiti citizens.

As for new domestic workers, the Ministry demanded that the domestic workers be included under their sponsors’ ration cards, especially since many people have changed their work permits without updating their data therefore they are unaccounted for when distributing food rations.
