Food Delivery Permits Put On Hold

13 February 2020 Kuwait

The State Minister for Cabinet Affairs and Minister of Interior Anas Al-Saleh revealed that Ministry of Interior has addressed Ministry of Commerce and Industry about the temporary suspension of issuance of licenses for ‘delivery’ of consumers products, transportation of goods, and all other activities related to the General Traffic Department until the conditions and regulations that organize such activities are reviewed and finalized, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In response to a parliamentary question submitted by MP Mohammad Al-Dalal, Minister Al-Saleh said Ministry of Interior is currently coordinating with the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition regarding health approvals related to vehicles and bicycles for transportation of food in order to ensure health conditions are met.

He explained that Ministry of Interior has future plans to regulate the traffic of all types of motorbikes. There is an ongoing coordination with Ministry of Public Works and Public Authority for Road and Transportation (PART) concerning all projects that are established on the roads. There is also an ongoing coordination with the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) to allocate bicycle lanes in new areas.

Traffic campaigns are constantly held on all roads to supervise and ensure the traffic laws are being observed by the motorists, as well as to take all necessary measures against traffic violations. Bicycle accidents are being dealt with by dispatching police patrol to the scene of the accident and cordoning it off until the concerned authority (ambulance, fire truck, forensic evidence, etc.) arrive.

In another context, Minister Al-Saleh, in his response to a parliamentary question presented by MP Ahmed Al-Fadhel, revealed that the number of complaints related to the Egyptian consulate amounted to seven cases in 2019, including beating, imprisonment, torture and mugging. He said some of these complaints were recorded, while others were resolved among the involved parties.

Al-Saleh highlighted the case No. 182/2018 filed by Kuwaiti citizen Ismail Dashti against the Egyptian consulate on allegations of assault and illegal confinement, indicating that this case is still under investigation. He added there were no cases recorded regarding attacks by Egyptian consulate staff during the year 2017/2018.
