Fishing In Prohibited Regions - Kd 5,000 Fine And 1 Year Jail

The inspection teams from the Environment Public Authority (EPA) recently issued a citation to some Asians under Article 108 of the Environmental Protection Law, which prohibits fishing in Kuwait in a designated area considered environmentally harmful activity, reports Al-Qabas daily.

Those caught fishing carries a fine of up to KD 5,000 or imprisonment for one year. The men were caught fishing in Kuwait’s Bay using different fishing gear.

The EPA also carried out an inspection campaign in a clinic in Farwaniya Governorate and a central market, where a number of violations related to engineering requirements were monitored, as well as other violations cited to a group of restaurants in Hawalli Governorate for causing sewage blockage due to accumulation of oil and several irregularities in accordance with Article 18 of the law for restaurants.

In another environmental context, the EPA carried out a campaign of planting mangroves and in Bubiyan Island in the presence and participation of Director General Abdullah Al-Ahmad in cooperation with the Coast Guard.

Al-Ahmad said in a press statement on the sidelines of the campaign, it is the first time that this type of plant is grown on the island of Bubiyan. The aim is to increase greenery in Kuwait and increase biodiversity.

The Deputy Director General for Environmental Control Affairs Samira Al-Kandari held a meeting to discuss the problem of collecting water in the residential city of Sabah Al-Ahmad.

The meeting was held with the concerned state authorities – the Ministry of Public Works, Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport, Public Authority for Housing Welfare, Public Authority for Agriculture and Fisheries to implement urgent solutions to solve the problem.
