Mga Pinoy Sa Middle East Pinangangambahang Maipit Sa Sigalot Ng Iran, Us
Dahil sa tumitinding tensiyon sa pagitan ng US at Iran, Iraq, at iba pang bansa sa Middle East, nanawagan ang isang labor group na magplano na ang gobyerno para mapauwi ang mga Pinoy sa naturang rehiyon.
Nangako kasi ng matinding paghihiganti ang gobyerno ng Iran nang mapatay sa airstrike ng US si Iranian Top Commander Qassem Soleimani, ang itinuturing na ika-2 pinakamataas na lider sa Iran.
Sakaling lumala ang gulo, nangangamba ang Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) na maaaring maperwisyo ang tinatayang 1.2 milyong Pinoy na nasa Middle East.
"We therefore call on the President to convene a multi-government agency panel that would device an early escape plan," ani TUCP party-list Rep. Raymond Mendoza.
Ayon naman sa datos ng Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), nasa 1,190 ang documented workers sa bansang Iraq at nasa 800 dito ang naninirahan sa Baghdad, kung saan nangyari ang airstrike.
Aabot sa 538 naman ang undocumented workers sa nasabing bansa.
Samantala, ilegal ang lahat ng manggagawang Pinoy sa bansang Iran dahil walang labor agreement ang dalawang bansa, ayon kay Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III.
Pero handa naman daw silang tulungang makauwi ang mga nagtatrabahong Pinoy sa lugar.
Wala pang planong i-repatriate ang mga Pinoy doon, ayon naman kay Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., pero maigi raw nilang babantayan ang sitwasyon.
"Let’s wait where the situation goes. To evacuate is like a sign of no faith in the intelligence of the countries involved," ani Locsin.
Nanawagan din ang DFA na kanselahin na ang mga biyahe patungong Iraq.
