Female Sheep, Cows And Camels Cannot Be Slaughtered

29 September 2019 Kuwait

In an unprecedented move the Public Authority for Agricultural Affairs and Fish Resources (PAAAFR) has issued a decision which came into immediate effect according to which female animals including sheep, cows and camels cannot be slaughtered, reports Al-Rai daily.

The decision says, “Until further notice the slaughter of red meat producing female animals, including sheep, cows and camels is forbidden in order to increase the production of red meat.”

The decision includes female animals from one year to four years old, unless it is proved these animals are unfit for breeding for any reason or are diseased or suffer from fractures. An official source at PAAAFR stressed that the decision is the first of its kind in the history of Kuwait, and comes within the framework of the efforts of the Authority to preserve livestock, and as sources said in the sheep market the prices of livestock are prone to rise in the coming period.

An official source at the PAAAFR has warned of penalties if the instructions are not followed saying all slaughter houses have been informed of the decision.
