Fees Structure Of Various British Schools In Kuwait
1. The British School of Kuwait
Founded: 1978
Gender: Mixed (Co-education)
Curriculum: British, IGCSE
Fees details :
The fees charged by The British School of Kuwait (BSK) are set in accordance with Kuwait Ministry of Education regulations.
By any standards, the fees charged by BSK represent exceptional value for money. Whilst there are cheaper schools in Kuwait, none can rival the quality and range of experiences on offer, or the achievements of our students.
Information on the fees payable for each year group is available upon request from our Accounts Team, who can be contacted via email to accounts@bsk.edu.kw.
Admissions :
Admissions To The British School Of Kuwait
To maintain the position of The British School of Kuwait (BSK) as a centre of excellence it is essential that the students who gain admission meet standards that enable them to gain as much as possible from their learning experiences. It is important for our parents to know that their child will be sitting next to classmates who are equally able, well-behaved and highly motivated.
Parents and students who are considering joining BSK are welcome to tour our Salwa campus. Tours can be arranged by contacting the front reception desk. When you contact us, we will ask for the age of your child so that a relevant tour is arranged that includes the areas that your child would frequent including classrooms, playgrounds and specialist facilities.
Step one of the actual admissions process for parents of prospective students is to make contact with the relevant Phase Coordinator (PC) or Department Coordinator (DC), either directly or through the front reception desk.
It is not possible for students to join Year 11 unless they have completed year one of the appropriate two-year GCSE/IGCSE courses. It is not possible for students to join Year 13 unless they have completed year one (AS) of the appropriate two-year Advanced level courses.
Step two is to sit an entrance test arranged by the PC/DC. For younger students these tests are specially designed by BSK. For older students from Year 4 to Year 11, age-specific Cognitive Ability Testing (CAT) is used. For students considering Year 12 or 13, satisfactory GCSE, IGCSE or AS Level results are required.
Step Three for students that have passed STAGE TWO, is an interview with the relevant PC/DC who must be provided with previous school reports.
Step Four for students that have been accepted for entry by the PC/DC is for parents to meet with the Senior Registrar to complete, in full, a school application form, including agreement of the terms and conditions.
Step Five is to pay a non-refundable deposit , plus refundable compulsory charges (for the VLE, textbooks and school photographs) to the Senior Bursar.
Step Six is to return to the Senior Registrar for the final confirmation of admission and allocation to a Tutor Group (TG).
Entrance Testing
With over 70 different nationalities of students, it is important that The British School of Kuwait (BSK) employs an admissions testing system that does not favour students from any one national education system. Nevertheless, as English is used in nearly all situations at BSK, it is essential that students joining BSK can communicate in English.
As outlined in the admissions process, students hoping to gain admission to BSK from Year 4 to Year 11 are required to sit a Cognitive Ability Test (CAT).
CATs take the form of a series of multi-choice tests in four key areas:
Verbal reasoning. A series of short tests aimed at assessing the students’ use of the English language in normal situations.
Quantitative reasoning. A series of short tests aimed at assessing the students’ ability in arithmetical and universal mathematical manipulations.
Non-verbal reasoning. A series of short tests aimed at assessing the students’ intellectual dexterity.
Spatial reasoning. A series of short tests aimed at assessing the students’ ability to generate and transform visual images.
CATs are non-specific in relation to national education systems but the tests are age-specific.
The Admissions Testing room is situated in the Main building. The four key testing areas are split into three online sections which take a minimum of 90 minutes to complete. Parents should therefore set aside at least two hours between delivering their children and picking them up.
The results of marked CATs can be analysed in a number of ways. BSK’s preferred method is to compare candidates by standard deviation from the mean, using the standard nine (STANINE) divisions of a normal distribution curve. Having used this method for many years, BSK holds a wealth of data for comparative purposes.
Procedures
Reception To Year 11
Parents wishing to enquire into registration for their children from Reception to Year 11 may contact the Senior Registrar, in the first instance.
The Senior Registrar will then request some basic documentation, including the personal details page of your child's passport and a copy of their most recent detailed school report. The Senior Registrar is able to advise on movement from a non-British education system.
Sixth Form
Enquiries to join Year 12 or 13 for AS/A Level courses are processed in line with the published entry criteria and should be made through the Sixth Form Coordinator, who will require details of performance at the end of Year 10, mock-GCSE/IGCSE for Year 12 and final GCSE/IGCSE and AS unit results for Year 13.
Enquiries From Outside Kuwait
In the event of a registration enquiry for Years 3-13 in which the prospective student is outside Kuwait, the Senior Registrar will ask for the applicant's most recent school report and their passport photograph page to be emailed.
The Senior Registrar will forward this information to the relevant Phase or Department Coordinator to seek provisional approval. If such approval is granted, a place in the Year Group will be reserved, subject to the receipt, within seven days, of a completed registration form and 200 Kuwaiti dinars (KWD) deposit.
If the parent is in Kuwait, an original registration form should be obtained from the Senior Registrar, completed and returned to the Senior Registrar. The 200 Kuwaiti dinars (KWD) deposit should be paid to the Senior Bursar.
If the parent is not in Kuwait, an electronic copy of the completed registration form (download link) should be emailed to the Senior Registrar ( email: tkk@bsk.edu.kw ), and the 200 Kuwaiti dinars (KWD) deposit remitted to the to the school account.
Upon the prospective student’s arrival in Kuwait, the normal admissions procedure must take place, including an admissions test (CAT or other). In the event that the prospective student does not pass the admissions procedure, a full refund of the KD200 will be made.
For registration enquiries to Reception, Year 1 or Year 2 in which the prospective student is outside Kuwait the above procedure does not apply. Instead, prospective families are asked to contact the Lower Phase Coordinator directly.
Admissions Tests
Appointments for admissions tests are made by a receptionist and the parent will be informed of a date and time. The admission test costs KD20.
The results of the admissions test are forwarded to the relevant Phase Coordinator (PC) or Department Coordinator (DC). The PC/DC will contact parents with the result. For successful students, an appointment will be made for an interview with the PC/DC. Following a successful outcome to the interview, the PC/DC will accompany parents to the Senior Registrar’s office for the completion of the registration process which involves:
Completion of a registration form* which must then be signed by the PC/DC.
Payment of a non-refundable deposit, plus refundable compulsory charges, to the Senior Bursar.
*Parents have Three working days from completion of the registration form to complete payment of the non-refundable deposit and refundable compulsory charges. If parents do not pay the deposit and charges on time the place cannot be guaranteed.
Re-registration
Early in Term 3, parents will receive notification of the deadline for re-registration which has been agreed with the Ministry of Private Education. This date is always in the first week of April.
BSK guarantees to register students for the next academic year provided the student successfully completes the year and re-registers before the deadline. Should a parent fail to re-register a student before the deadline, BSK cannot guarantee a place. As BSK is Kuwait’s premier school and places are in high demand, we urge parents to re-register early.
Parents are required to visit the school and to meet with the Senior Registrar. During the meeting, parents should update details on their child’s registration form and then visit the Senior Bursar to pay a non-refundable re-registration deposit of KD100, plus refundable compulsory charges for the VLE, textbooks and school photographs, per student.
