Expedite Establishment Of New Labor Cities
Minister of Public Works and State Minister for Municipal Affairs Hussam Al- Roumi sent a memo to the National Assembly to expedite the establishment of new labor cities, reports Al-Rai daily.
He revealed that the project for construction of the first labor city will be launched in South Jahra after the relevant contract is signed, adding that the project will start by the end of 2019.
In the memo he sent to the Parliament’s Public Utilities Committee in response to a parliamentary question presented by MP Askar Al-Enezi, Minister Al-Roumi revealed that five other locations have been allocated for constructing labor cities, indicating that the projects are being studied in preparation for floating them to private sector companies based on the law of partnership between the private and public sectors.
He explained that the six locations are distributed in all six governorates of Kuwait in coordination with various state organizations. A labor city is planned to be established in Subbiya on an area of 246.5 hectares with the capacity of accommodating 40,000 laborers.
The second labor city will be located in North Mutla’a City on an area of 246.5 hectares with the capacity to accommodate 40,000 laborers.
The third labor city will be located in South Jahra area on an area of 101.5 hectares with the capacity for accommodating 20,000 laborers.
The fourth labor city will be at Sulaibiya-Kabad vicinity on an area of 246.5 hectares and with capacity for 40,000 labors.
The fifth labor city will be located in East Uriafejan City in Ahmadi Governorate on an area of 246.5 hectares and with capacity for 40,000 laborers.
The sixth city will be located in Wafra area in North Khairan on an area of 246.5 hectares and with capacity to accommodate 40,000 laborers.
The memo included a study prepared by Kuwait Municipality concerning the problems resulting from bachelors residing in private residential areas as well as traffic congestion and low level of hygiene
