Ex-mp Nafisi Acquitted

The Cassation Court ruled in favor of former MP and academician Dr Abdullah Al-Nafi si and freed him, reports Al- Qabas daily. Earlier the Court of Appeals had overturned the verdicts of two lower courts and fined Al-Nafi si KD 10,000 for undermining national unity during a seminar which was held under the title ‘Safavid intervention and the threat to the Gulf’ in Fahaheel.

The Cassation Court upheld the verdicts of both the lower courts and acquitted Al-Nafi si. Defense lawyer Duwaim Al-Muwaizri said his client did talk about the Shiite sect, but he was talking about the Iranian Safavid intervention, since the Safavid neither belongs to the Sunni nor the Shiite faith, but it was a sect or a political party.
