Epa Reveals New Case Of Public Funds Theft

30 October 2021 Crime News

The Environment Public Authority (EPA) revealed a new case of theft of public funds by stealing from a sand quarry and selling them without any prior license or approval, reports Al-Qabas daily. Reacting to one of the reports, the Environmental Inspection and Control Department, led by Nada Dabbashi, discovered the misuse of public funds through a company that sells sand without any license or approval from government agencies.

The EPA issued a citation against the company, stipulating a fine of up to KD 50,000 and imprisonment for a period between one year and three years. The citation came in accordance with Article 46 of the Environmental Protection Law, which prohibits the establishment, expansion, development, merging or division of any quarry into more than one project or making any change in it without a license issued by the concerned authority.

It also states that licenses may not be granted to practice this activity except for companies qualified by the concerned authorities. In all cases, the practitioners of this activity are obligated to rehabilitate the sites after the end of their work period in accordance with the requirements specified by the EPA in this regard.
