The Environment Public Authority (EPA) has referred some officials of the Union of Cooperative Societies and others to the Public Prosecution for violating the Environmental Protection Act No. 42 of 2014 and its amendments, reports Al- Rai daily.

It has been reported the EPA police during a surprise inspection check found ashtrays at the headquarters of the union suggesting smoking was permitted.

Earlier the Head of the Union of Consumer Cooperative Societies Khalid Al-Hudaiban had criticized the role of the Environment Police for barging into a closed-door meeting.

The Director-General, and Chairman of Al-Naseem Cooperative Society had accused a policeman of requesting the Head of the Union to show his personal identity without introducing himself and called it a legal mockery and prestige of the place.

He added this act had ignited a crisis between the Environment Public Authority and the Union and the latter filed a lawsuit considering it an insult to important personalities in the country, the state and representatives of commercial missions. He asked, is not that an insult to the reputation of Kuwait and an insult to a closed meeting and a lack of commitment to the ethics?
