England Lifts The World Cup In A Super Over Thriller

14 July 2019 Kuwait

For the first time ever in cricket history, England has lifted the World Cup with just a one-run victory over heartbroken New Zealand. All the efforts of English players paid off and there could be no better reason for the whole of English people to celebrate now.

After 100 Overs played and match drawn, the game went to the Super Over where England managed to pull off 16 runs, and then restricted New Zealand for just 15 runs. That run out off the last ball, has made England make even the super over tie. But then they have lifted the World Cup for the first time in cricket history as they have scored more boundaries that New Zealand in the match.

In what everyone is calling as the greatest World Cup final ever, England pulled off a dramatic stunt to win the cup first time. Electing to bat first, New Zealand scored 241-runs as England bowlers are spot on. Henry Nicholls and Tommy Latham have posted 55 and 47 respectively while big names like Guptill, Willamson and Ross Taylor haven't shined well.

Set to achieve a target of 242 runs, then England lost wickets at regular intervals and took the match to lost over where the heroics of Ben Stokes sparkled like fireworks. Down with 8 wickets, England needed 13 runs off last over, where Stokes hit a 6 and another overthrow got them 6 more runs. As they take only a single off the last ball, the match got pushed to super over.
