The Court of Appeals overturned the verdict issued by the Criminal Court which sentenced a Kuwaiti lawyer and four Egyptian employees of his office to life imprisonment for kidnapping and beating his lawyer colleague. The court instead sentenced them to 15 years in prison for kidnapping, beating, theft, confinement of freedom and impersonation of a detective, reports Al-Anba daily.

According to the case file, the victim lawyer had accused his colleague of sending four of his office employees and representatives to capture him outside his office building. They took him in their vehicle to a livestock pen belonging to his colleague where they abused him and beat him while he was handcuffed. They then transported him in their vehicle and dumped him in a random location. However, a checkpoint witnessed their crime.

The defendants were referred to trial on charges related to kidnapping, beating, theft, confinement of freedom and impersonation of a detective. The first defendant denied the accusation but the rest of his accomplices first confessed to it but later denied it, except for one of them who continued to confess to the crime until the end of the trial sessions.

The case dates back to last February when it received media attention.
