Egyptians Acquitted Of Trading In Thousands Of Drug Pills
The Court of Appeals upheld the verdict of First Instance Court and acquitted two Egyptians of trafficking 4,000 Tramadol pills via courier service for trade purpose.
The case file indicated the police, based on a report submitted by the General Customs Administration, checked three bags sent into the country by courier in the name of an Egyptian expatriate, and noticed two of the bags contained 4,000 Tramadol pills carefully hidden inside metal pipes and bag holders.
Customs Search and Investigation Office in collaboration with the Drug Control Department arrested the first suspect who signed for delivery and later nailed the second suspect who received the consignment.
Lawyer En’am Haider representing the suspects argued that the prosecution officer couldn’t provide any proof that the two bags of drugs were imported for sale and that her client had nothing to do with the illicit items. She faulted the procedure of investigation and arrest, saying it was full of frivolities.
