Egyptian Disappears After Selling Kd2m Worth Of Fake Kuwait Residence Permits

Over the past week, several Egyptians launched a campaign to expose an Egyptian broker who allegedly fled the scene after collecting almost two million Kuwaiti dinars in exchange for providing residency permits for those looking to work in Kuwait, local media reported.

Tensions escalated between the families of the victims and the residency broker after thousands of Egyptians who travelled to Kuwait for work realised that they had been sold fake visas.

The case surfaced recently as several victims filed legal cases against the broker after he disappeared without returning the money.

The scam has been going on for a few years as it was revealed that between 2018 and 2020, the residency dealer sold around 2,000 fake visas to Egyptians in the Sohag governorate. He was charging around 2,000 Kuwaiti dinars for a single visa.

While his identity has not been made public, it is reported that the residency dealer is based in the Al Balina Centre in the Egyptian governorate of Sohag and has houses, real estate properties and enormous wealth; all that appeared after his work in permit trading.

Several Egyptians filed cases against him as they stated they were abandoned by him once they got to Kuwait. In addition, once confronted the residency broker stated that he had no idea the visas were fake.

In one instance, an Egyptian worker explained that he was amongst 80 other people who travelled to Kuwait in 2018 after purchasing a visa from the broker. Once they got to Kuwait they realised that the residency was fake and when they confronted him he abandoned them.

The specific incidence is one of many visa trading scandals that have hit Kuwait in the past year. The government has been cracking down on illegal permit traders, as well as illegal permit holders.

Several workers have been victims of the illegal visas trading network as they often pay large sums of money to obtain a visa to remain in Kuwait and work marginal day jobs.
