07 July 2022 International

An accident between a bus and truck on Abu Simbel-Aswan Road in Upper Egypt on Thursday morning resulted in eight deaths and 44 injuries.

More than 20 ambulances have been dispatched to the scene by Aswan governorate's health authorities. Aswan University Hospital received the injured.

In the bus, which was coming from Sudan, there were 56 passengers. The majority of the victims were Sudanese, according to Ahmad Mesilhy of the Aswan Security Directorate.

On Edfu-Marsa Alam Road in Aswan, two people were killed and eight others were injured in a car crash last month.

According to a report released by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics in November 2021, Egypt reported a 28.9% drop in road traffic injuries and 8.9% drop in deaths in 2020.

It is believed that the decline is due to increased efforts to improve the nation's road network through the 2014 National Road Project.

In the past eight years, Egypt developed and extended its 23,500 km road network by building 5,500 km of new roads, developing 7,500 km, and building 900 bridges.
