Eateries, Cafes Climb In Count; Home Deliveries Hit
Head of the Kuwait Union of Restaurants, Cafes and Catering Companies Fahad Al-Arbash says the number of restaurants in Kuwait is approximately 4,000 excluding the various branches of many restaurants, reports Al-Anba daily. In an exclusive interview with the daily, he said, “If the branches of some restaurants, this number will reach between 6,000 and 7,000.
If restaurants and cafes that provide other services such as drinks, hookah and others are counted, the total number of restaurants and cafes in Kuwait will reach approximately 16,000”. Regarding occupancy rates in restaurants and the extent to which the sector has overcome the operational challenges imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Al-Arbash stressed that the dine-in services in restaurants, after its resumption, have acquired nearly 80 percent of the total requests, which negatively affected restaurant deliveries by up to 25 percent.
Revealed
He revealed that, in light of the COVID-19 pandemic and its health and economic repercussions on various Kuwaiti sectors since the beginning of 2020 until date, the restaurant and cafe market in Kuwait witnessed the closure of a large number of them during the past year as a result of the unprecedented repercussions of the crisis. Al-Arbash indicated that with the easing of restrictions and procedures during the current year to combat the pandemic, Kuwait witnessed the opening of a large number of restaurants and cafes in the local market.
