Early Retirement Move To Make Room For New Blood

23 December 2018 Kuwait

Participants in the symposium ‘Early retirement between two readings’ have called for not paying attention to the rumors spread by some to belittle performance of the National Assembly on passage of the law, reports Al-Rai daily.

They say the law does not detract from earlier advantages, but gives more benefits by opening the window for employees to retire early and make room for young people. At the same time the participants stressed that the government is not entitled to force the employees into retirement unless they reach the required age without incurring any financial burden in this regard. Speaking at the symposium, which was organized by the Minister of Finance Nayef A-Hajraf and MPs Salah Khorshid and Ali Al- Dekbasi, MP Nayef Al-Merdas said the new law does not refer the employee to retire without his request and approval, as the benefit has been increased to 7 salaries, and the premium does not exceed a quarter of the salary without any benefits.

He went on to say, those who do not wish to retire early are not forced to do so, the damage is zero percent and does not benefit if not affected by this law. “We recognize that what has been achieved does not fulfill my ambition, but it is a step in the path we are seeking,” he said. “We urgently need to change and amend legislation that affects the Kuwaiti society. “The law opens employment opportunities for young people and retirees that will take 7 salaries instead of taking two salaries, while women will benefit from them, since they are treated fairly like men,” he said. “After the law was passed in the first during, there were those who tried to distort it while many others lied to people. I am talking about those who said there is no end of service, which is not true”.

He continued, “In 2020 there will be a new retirement law and new options will be in place. In other words, you have a desire to go out at a cost of 2 percent better than to continue, and to take out the children, because there is no better option than that, and that is better than complaining. “ For his part, the Minister of Finance said “I emphasize the basic points, the first that the law is optional, who wants to receive the benefits has a choice, and those who wish to continue are not obliged to abide by this law.” “The second point is that the law has added a lot of advantages. “I have heard,” he said “a lot of opinions and analyzes and I think they are political opinions and not technical in their entirety. There may be technical opinions that are respected. I respect all opinions, even if I do not agree with them,” he said.
