Dust Storm And Drop In Temperature Blessing For Mew

14 June 2021 Weather in Kuwait

While the severe dust storm is sounding the alarm bell in all state agencies to deal with its repercussions related to health, low visibility or removal of sand from the outer roads, the Ministry of Electricity and Water has been benefiting the most from the climatic condition that the country is currently experiencing, reports Aljarida daily. Following the experts’ expectations that the dust storm will continue in the country for a couple more days, the Ministry of Electricity and Water breathed a sigh of relief due to the drop in temperatures, which led to a decline in the electricity consumption after the load index recorded the highest consumption level in the country’s history on June 6 with 15,070 megawatts after the temperature reached about 50 degrees Celsius. During the past two days, the temperatures dropped, reaching 43 degrees Celsius on Sunday.

The load index recorded on Saturday was 12,620 megawatts, and it was 12,619 megawatts on Sunday at 2:30 pm, with a difference of 2,451 megawatts from the maximum load recorded yet during this summer. As per simple calculation for each drop in the temperature, the national grid has saved about 350 megawatts. According to informed sources from the ministry, what happened during the past days can be described as a “compulsory rationalization” imposed by the climatic conditions. It brought about a state of relief due to the decline in consumption and the consequent stability in the network, reaching the point of stopping the operation of small production units and reducing the production of large units that runs throughout the summer. The decrease in consumption results in a decrease in fuel consumption, as well as a decrease in the rate of pollution resulting from burning operations, and a decrease in the rates of power outages that usually occur due to severe pressure on network components as a result of increased loads.
