During Ramadan, Moi Records 397 Traffic Accidents Per Day

On the call to Maghreb prayer, when everyone is busy breaking their fast under one roof with their loved ones, the men in uniforms, whether they are patrolling highways, fixing security points, or monitoring the security situation from the Operations Department, the General Traffic Department's Central Control Department, which recorded the total number of accidents during the Ramadan period of just 15 days (an average of 397 accidents each day).

In the control department, while direct monitoring the traffic situation on highways and intersections, as the cannons were sounded announcing the month's sermon, the control officers ate dates and drank water as their minds and eyes scanned the movement of vehicles and provided assistance to the drivers.

These loyal men, each in his field, ensured people were able to break their fast without disturbance in a local Arabic daily.

Traffic Control Department Captain Khaled Abdullah Freih told the daily that the Traffic Control Department has put into place all the security arrangements and procedures relating to traffic that are required in order to smooth traffic during the holy month of Ramadan. For instance, traffic is monitored around the clock 24/7 with work done to program intersections based on the density of vehicles.

During the blessed month of Ramadan, the Operations Department received statistics on 5,959 accidents during the first 15 days of Ramadan, from April 2 to April 16, 2022. The number of accidents before breakfast in the first 15 days is 3,034 and the number of accidents after breakfast is 2,925.

According to Capt. Al-Fraih, traffic is particularly heavy after breakfast, so it is concentrated in commercial areas and market areas. This calls for spreading patrols to the areas experiencing traffic jams and directing security personnel to monitor roads that experience traffic jams or accidents.

The country is now equipped with 836 security cameras, as well as mobile monitoring devices for roads.
