Driving Licenses Granted To Expats Was 1,664,000 Compared To 624,000 Granted For Citizens

The office of the Council of Ministers has decided to make public the response of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Lt-Gen Sheikh Khalid Al-Jarrah to the query submitted by MP Ahmad Al-Fadhel on roaming taxis and driving licenses granted to Kuwaitis and non-Kuwaitis, reports Al-Qabas daily.

In his reply, Sheikh Al- Jarrah revealed the number of valid driving licenses granted to expatriates was 1,664,000 compared to 624,000 granted for citizens. He pointed out that the number of vehicles registered in the names of Kuwaitis was 39,000, compared to 616,000 registered in the names of expatriates. The minister said the Interior Ministry has withdrawn 22,000 driving licenses from citizens while 15,000 from non-Kuwaitis because of traffic violations.

He pointed out the private driving licenses issued to Kuwaitis was 607,000, 10,000 what the minister called ‘general’, about 6,400 motorcycle licenses and 146,000 business licenses, the licenses issued for expatriates 909,000 including 730,000 private, while the number of motorcycle licenses was 6,200.

He denied that there are market licenses or false forms of education, pointing out that some forms and market licenses, which were forged on the basis of which the licenses were issued have been seized and the suspects referred to the competent authority. He spoke of the automated link between the Ministry of Interior and the Public Authority for Manpower to ensure the validity of the profession and sal-ary certificates based on which driving licenses are issued to expatriates.

The education certificates, he said, are authenticated through the embassies of the applicants and then Kuwait’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He explained the driving licenses of expatriates get automatically cancelled at the end of the residence permit. The licenses which are issued based on the profession such as company and house drivers, company representatives, etc, are automatically cancelled following the change of profession.

In another development, the monthly report of Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW) revealed that the establishment and maintenance of 290 apartments in the N1 and N2 sectors, and 350 others as well as public facilities, infrastructure and main services in Jaber Al-Ahmad housing project have been completed by 72.84 percent, reports Al-Anba daily. 
Concerning Al-Mutla residential city project, the report indicated that the rate of completion of the project for establishment and maintenance has reached 47.15 percent when compared to the previously determined rate of 39.65 percent.

In addition, the project of establishment and maintenance of roads and infrastructural network for 4,999 buildings and power substations in two suburbs (2 and 3) has been completed by 15.64 percent. It also revealed that the project for establishment and maintenance of roads and infrastructural services for 18,519 buildings and power substations in eight suburbs has been delayed by 32.12 percent.
