Driver Shot, Injured As Bid To Rob Armoured Cash Van Fails

An Egyptian employee of a security company was shot in his thigh when he and his colleague were dealing with three armed robbers who were attempting to steal money from an armoured vehicle in Shuwaikh area.

According to security sources, the robbery attempt occurred late night when a black-colored “Yukon” vehicle stopped an armored vehicle in Shuwaikh Industrial Area near the old police station of Shuwaikh Industrial Area. Three individuals jumped out of the vehicle, opened the front doors of the armored vehicle and threatened the driver and his passenger. One of them was holding a loaded pistol and the other was holding a cleaver. They demanded the two men to open the trunk but the latter said they did not have the key. The suspects tried to break open the trunk but they were unable to do so. They then jumped back into the Yukon and tried to escape but the driver of the armored vehicle chased them and then hit the Yukon with his vehicle.

One of the suspects shot at the armored vehicle and the bullet hit the driver in his thigh, forcing him to put an end to the chase. He reported the incident to the Operations Room of Ministry of Interior. Securitymen rushed to the location with paramedics who referred the injured victim to Sabah Hospital for treatment. Securitymen launched investigations to find and arrest the three runaway suspects. Assistant Undersecretary for Public Security Affairs Major General Ibrahim Al-Tarrah and other high-ranking officers of Ministry of Interior were notified about the incident.
