Disposal Of Medical Waste Project To Cost Kd 658,000
The Ministry of Health has obtained the approval of the Central Tenders Committee (CTC) for the operation, maintenance and management of incinerators in Shuaiba for medical waste.
The issue has been referred to State Audit Bureau, reports Al-Qabas daily quoting informed sources. The sources added that the cost of the incinerators is estimated at KD 658,000, which is concerned with the disposal of medical waste, such as materials and supplies, equipment and medicines which have expired.
The sources said, for this purpose there are three incinerators, two of them in Shuaiba and the third in Kabad, given the expansion of health coverage in hospitals and medical centers.
The sources pointed out that the most important challenges and problems facing the process of disposal of medical waste are the small areas allocated for the incinerators, and the scarcity of land on which it is possible to build new incinerators, to ensure optimal handling of tons of waste.
The sources pointed out that the Ministry of Health is preparing to set up an incinerator for the private sector, so that any damaged materials and supplies will be transferred from the private centers and hospitals to the Ministry of Health.
The sources added that the task of supervision and followup on the work of the incinerator belonging to the Department of Hotel Services in the Ministry, and is entrusted with the implementation of the contracts of the Central Incinerators, noting the existence of technical committees overseeing the work of the incinerator, must continue periodically.
