03 March 2020 Coronavirus

In a bid to prevent coronavirus transmission, the Kuwait Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has, on a recommendation from the Ministry of Health, prohibited the entry of all nationalities from countries with a high risk of coronavirus transmission. Including China, Iran, Iraq, Italy, South Korea, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand.

However, the citizens from these countries can travel to Kuwait, provided they have not been in any of the infected areas during the last 14 days.

The new DGCA order comes as the virus continues to rapidly spread and shows no signs of slowing down. Kuwait currently has 56 confirmed cases of the virus, all of which have been recorded in the passengers arriving from Iran.

The order further states that there are some exceptions including Kuwaiti Nationals, Immediate members of Kuwaiti Nationals (Father, Mother, Spouse, and Children) and domestic help under the sponsorship of Kuwaitis.

The DGCA has ordered to take precautionary measures during an event of accepting exempted passengers. Notifying the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Interior about passenger name, nationality, travel documents detail, the port of origin, inbound flight number and the estimated time of arrival in Kuwait.

The Ministry of Interior had already suspended entry of GCC national using their civil id, possession of a passport is mandatory. With Regards to passengers arriving from Egypt, Kuwait will examine all the passengers and if anyone proved to be suffering from fever, they would not be accepted uncles they go through a PCR examination of Covid-19 on the day of arrival. These passengers would be placed in a health quarantine area for further formalities. Upon examination, if found not to be infected would be advised to self-quarantine for 14 days. If infected would be placed in MoH quarantine and would receive the required medication.

Due to the long incubation period of the virus, the passengers are required to take precautionary measures even if they do not have a fever and would be monitored by MoH for 14 days
