Dgca Dismisses Rumors Of Airport Closure For 2 Weeks

11 March 2020 Coronavirus

The Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has denied rumors circulating that Kuwait International Airport will be closed for two weeks starting Thursday. Gripped by coronavirus fears, and smothered by a slew of heavy measures, many false rumors have been circulating on social media. The status of the airport rumors comes on the heels of an earlier directive by DGCA banning flights from Bangladesh, Egypt, India, Lebanon, Philippines, Sri Lanka and Syria, for one week.

During that period, airports were filled with utter chaos as passengers were not only turned back but several thousands had completed one part of their transit journey and were stranded in another destination. Flights to Kuwait from the above countries were denied entry and asked to land in close by destinations, as pandemonium struck from the midnight circular about which only a few were aware.

To avoid distress, the Ministry is sparing no effort to combat the spread of misinformation about the coronavirus and measures undertaken to protect the general public. Security authorities are closely monitoring everything and keeping an eye on social media for fake news.

The Ministry of Information will take strict actions against those who spread rumors, out of concern that Kuwaitis and expats are being deceived on social media.

The government already announced that strict measures will be taken against those posting misleading messages, as well as those who spread such news by retweeting or forwarding such posts to others on Facebook or any other social media.
