Detention Of 5 Lawyers Extended In Bribe Case
The Public Prosecution has ordered extension of the detention of five lawyers accused of bribing two court clerks to continue interrogating them, reports Al-Anba daily. A source told the daily that the prosecution’s decision includes detention of seven suspects – five lawyers and two ‘mandoubs’ — for 21 days, as well as referring them to the Central Prison. He said the prosecution investigated the lawyers for bribing two court clerks and disclosing confidential data by taking photos of case files in a bid to access information about the plaintiff. He added the lawyers denied the charges during investigation.
Naked body found: Ahmadi Prosecution issued a directive on referring the body of an unknown person to Forensics to identify him and determine circumstances leading to his death, reports Al-Anba daily. It has been reported earlier that an Egyptian born in 1978 and residing in Fintas called the Operations Unit at the Ministry of Interior to report that he saw a person who wore nothing but his underwear thrown into the stairs and then covered with a blanket. The Operations Unit told him to go to Fintas Police Station where he narrated the story, stating that he does not know the person and he did not find any identification document. Officers from the Criminal Evidences Department lifted fingerprints. A case was registered and investigations are ongoing.
Smuggling cigarettes: A Kuwaiti citizen was arrested at Nuwaiseeb border checkpoint for attempting to smuggle 119 boxes of cigarette packs out of the country. A member of the Customs Media Committee at Nuwaiseeb border checkpoint Bilal Al-Khamees revealed that all the vehicles entering and leaving Kuwait undergo extensive inspection based on instructions from the customs leadership. He explained that one of the customs officers at the border checkpoint suspected a vehicle that was leaving the country and checked it to find 119 boxes of cigarette packs. The motorist, who turned out to be a Kuwaiti citizen, was arrested as the law does not allow travelers leaving the country to carry more than two boxes of cigarette packs. The cigarette packs have been confiscated and will be sold in an auction.
