Delay In Reproduction Is Higher Among Smokers Than Their Non-smoking Counterparts

22 November 2019 Health

Consultant Gynecologist and Obstetrician at the Medical Fertility Unit of Jahra Hospital Dr Hazem Al-Rumaih has warned against the effect of smoking on the rate of fertility in both men and women, affirming that delay in reproduction is higher among smokers than their non-smoking counterparts, reports Al-Rai daily.

Dr Al-Rumaih revealed that the rate of impotency in Kuwait, like the rest of the world, is about 15 percent of couples, which translates to about 15,000 out of every 100,000 couples who need medical care to conceive.

He said shisha is one of the worst types of smoking that affect fertility in both genders, because a single dose is equivalent to a packet of cigarette.

Dr Al-Rumaih corrected certain erroneous beliefs concerning the techniques of test-tube baby, explaining that microinjection, transfer of frozen fetus or DNA test of fetus do not cause deformity to the babies. He thus allayed fear of couples in that aspect.
