Customs Fines Subsidized Goods Three Times Their Value

In an announcement, Acting Director General of the General Administration of Customs, Sulaiman Abdulaziz Al-Fahad said that, in accordance with the directives of the Ministers of Commerce and Industry and Social Affairs and Community Development Fahd Al-Shariaan, customs instructions were issued to increase the fine for violating customs laws to three times the value of the goods seized, the maximum under the unified customs law, according to Al-Qabas daily.

According to a press release, Al-Fahd confirmed that this decision follows recent reports that subsidized supplies were being smuggled out of the country.
