Criminal Court Release 9 In Hospitality Case
The Criminal Court decided to release 9 men who were in custody in the so-called ‘Hospitality’ case of the Ministry of Interior.
The men were sent to prison during the last session, including former Brigadier Adel Al Hashash, the main accused in the case, reports Al-Qabas daily.
The name of Al-Hashash is not included in the list of names of the accused who have been released by court, following which Al-Hashash has decided to go on hunger strike inside the facility.
Al-Hashash has been in detention for 588 days after the Public Prosecution decided to detain him on Sept 19, 2018.
During the hearing of the case on more than one occasion he had offered to pay back to the Treasury more than KD 10 million which he had allegedly embezzled from the Hospitality Fund, but his ‘offer’ was rejected.
Some of the accused will remain in detention until a verdict is issued by the court. Although the court was to issue a verdict last week, no session was held and a reliable source told the Al-Qabas daily one of the reasons of postponing the verdict is the fear that the verdict may be null and void because the country is under partial curfew and work of institutions has been suspended.
The accused who continue to be imprisoned in addition to Al-Hashash are Abdullah Al-Hammadi (Kuwaiti), Ahmed Abdulaziz, Salah Al-Aqbi, Nour Al-Din Al-Katatni, Muhammad Ali Abbas (Egyptians), Ali Munir Haddad (Lebanese), Abdullah Harouni (Syrian), Osama Muli (Jordanian), Hamad Al-Tuwaijri (Kuwaiti but could not attend court due to his health condition). The defendants who are released are all Kuwaitis. They are Ahmed Al-Khalifa, Walid Al-Sanea, Maher Al-Baghli, Abeer Marafi, Iqbal Al-Khalfan, Ghusoon Al-Khaled, Ahmed Al-Khaled, Mohammad Tariq Al-Kazemi, Muhammed Ali Al-Kazemi. The suspects who are on the run include Mohamed Ballout, Ayman
