The Court of Cassation upheld the verdicts issued by the Court of Appeals and Court of First Instance which sentenced one of the suspects in the “Abdali Cell” case to ten-year imprisonment on allegations of joining Hezbollah.

Previously, the Criminal Court cancelled the verdict issued in absentia that sentenced the convict to 15-year imprisonment and instead sentenced him to 10-year imprisonment after acquitting him of charges of spying for Iran.

The court said it was not convinced by the espionage allegation included in the testimony of the State Security investigation officer. Meanwhile, the Criminal Court sentenced blogger Abdullah Al-Saleh to five-year imprisonment for insulting Bahrain. He was earlier convicted in a State Security case filed against him for offending the Gulf countries. The sentence was issued after he obtained asylum in Britain and handed over his Kuwaiti passport.
