The Criminal Court acquitted a Kuwaiti citizen who was accused of possessing drugs and driving his vehicle under narcotic influence. According to the testimony of the arresting officer, he was on a field tour in Firdous area when he suspected an individual who was driving recklessly. He ordered him to pull over and conducted a search to find a pill that looked like a drug. The citizen was arrested and referred with the pill to the concerned authorities. During the court session, the defense counsel Lawyer In’am Haidar said the arrest-and-search procedures were illegal due to which the consequent actions are invalid because her client was not caught red-handed. She stressed that searching an individual and inspecting his personal belongings require a warrant issued by Public Prosecution unless the individual is caught red-handed in the act.
