Romanian Tourist Arrested For Attempting To Install Data Copier In City Bank’s Atm
The security sector and the IT department of the Boubyan Bank thwarted the attempt of an unidentified Romanian man to install a data copier in one of the bank’s ATMs in downtown Kuwait City, reports Al-Rai daily. The general manager of the bank Walid Al-Yaqout said the security personnel assigned to monitor the surveillance cameras of one of the branches of the bank in the Capital Governorate noticed someone was trying to install something in the ATM machine.
The security authorities took immediate steps to stop the function of the ATM machine and the entrance to the bank was closed. The Operations Room of the Interior Ministry was informed and in a record time police officers came and arrested the suspect.
A security source told the daily the vigilance of the bank’s security officers played an important role in thwarting the attempted theft, indicating that the initial information showed that the intruder was trying to install something in the ATM machine to copy data of customers.
Al-Yaqout explained such attempts are widespread throughout the world, but the high-level developments and technologies used by the bank always help thwart such attempts and reassured all customers of the bank’s keenness to protect their information and data which is a top priority of the bank. The suspect reportedly entered Kuwait on a tourist visa four days ago.
