Covid-19: Kuwait Sees 2% Increase In Icu Capacity

The head of the COVID-19 team at Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, Dr Hashem Al Hashemi, has revealed that there has been a two per cent increase in COVID-19 patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) compared to last month, Al Jarida reported.

Al Hashemi also announced that bed occupancy for COVID-19 patients has increased - from 7 per cent at the end of December to 9 per cent in the middle of January.

As for the percentage of positive COVID-19 cases to swabs conducted, there has also been a slight increase given that a month ago Kuwait was at 4 per cent compared to 5.2 per cent in the past week.

Health measures

In an effort to keep the health situation stable in Kuwait, the Ministry of Health imposed further restrictions to contain the spread of the virus.

On Sunday, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DAGA) announced that for two weeks, from January 24 to February 6, a reduced number of passengers will be allowed to arrive in the country, around 1,000 passengers per day, compared to the 5,000 limit imposed earlier.

In addition, a few weeks ago, once the Kuwait airport reopened, authorities announced that all passengers arriving in Kuwait are required to conduct a PCR test in the airport. Although the airport is open, the ban on 35 countries is still in effect and any passenger wanting to travel to Kuwait must first quarantine for 14 days in a non-banned country before entering Kuwait.
