Covid 20 Raises Caution, Exceptional Measures To Curtail The New Strain
The discovery of the mutated strain of Coronavirus (Covid 20) in Kuwait has prompted the health authorities to raise the level of alert and precautions to curtail the new strain in order to prevent it from spreading across the country.
The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health (MoH), Dr. Abdullah Al-Sanad announced that two female citizens coming from Britain had been infected with the new mutation of the virus, explaining that the results of the PCR tests of the two citizens from the country of departure were negative but that the PCR examination that was conducted at Kuwait airport upon arrival proved that they were infected.
Al-Sanad said that the MoH teams dealt with the two cases by taking health isolation measures in accordance with internationally approved protocols, calling on everyone to adhere to health requirements and spacing measures, Al Qabas daily reported.
In addition, health sources told the daily that the ministry has taken exceptional, preventive, and precautionary measures with the two infected cases, who were admitted to the hospital. Even those in contact with them are isolated since their arrival in the country, and genetic tests have been also ordered for them.
The sources stated that the discovery of the new strain in the country was expected, especially since it was found in more than 50 countries recently. But MoH is taking all precautionary measures.
In this context, doctors specializing in epidemics warned that the new strain is spreading rapidly and infects children and young people, pointing out that those infected with it must be transferred to hospital wards.
