Court Sentenced Life Imprisonment To Ex-pifss Chief And His Wife For Embezzling Funds Of The Institute
The Criminal Court headed by Counselor Dr Ahmad Al-Muqallad has sentenced former head of the Public Institute for Social Security (PIFSS) Fahad Al-Rajaan and his wife Mona Al-Wazzan, to life imprisonment for embezzling funds of the institute, reports Al-Rai daily.
The court has also ordered the convicts to refund $82 million and fined them twice the amount and ordered the confiscation of their property, real estate, companies and shares for failure to honor the court verdict.
Meanwhile, the Criminal Court upheld decision of the Department of Public Prosecution that withheld a case filed by the Public Authority for Sports against Sheikh Talal Al-Fahad, Obaid Zayed and Ali Hussein for misappropriating public funds. Kuwait Olympics Committee said the allegation of misappropriating public funds filed by Public Authority for Sports against the committee chairman and Secretary General at the Department of Public Prosecution is not applicable to the committee or any other sporting agencies. It explained that Public Authority for Sports is budgeted on private funding rather than public funds, so it’s not covered within the purview of Law Number 1/1993 concerning the protection of public funds.
