The Criminal Court sentenced a female reporter and another person to two years jail with hard labor for threatening a citizen through WhatsApp. According to the case file and the plaintiff’s lawyer, the reporter threatened and insulted the plaintiff by using obscene and immoral words through mobile application ‘WhatsApp.’ Even if the accused denied all the charges filed against her, she admitted having differences with the plaintiff as the former allegedly kept on instigating a dispute with her.

The Court of Cassation, presided over by a judiciary panel under the leadership of Judge Faisal Khureibit, has overturned the verdict of the First Instance and Appeals courts which refrained from issuing judgment on a citizen accused of stealing several equipment from a women’s salon. According to the case files, the defendant sublet the salon in 2011 to an expatriate (plaintiff).

Two years later, the expatriate entered the salon only to find out that everything has been taken, accusing the citizen of taking the items by using a spare key to the salon. Attorney Bashar Al-Nassar, who represented the citizen in court, argued that his client sublet the premises, not the equipment and she purchased all the equipment being used in the salon.

Al-Nassar disclosed his client discovered that the expatriate has been delayed in paying rent for several months so the owner was about to file a case against the citizen. This prompted the citizen to take her things and sell them to pay the rent with the intention of returning the premises to the owner. The citizen presented all the receipts for all the equipment that she took and sold to pay the rent.
