Court Imposed A Fine Of Kd 3000 On A Youth Who Was Convicted Of Publishing Lewd Remarks About Woman On Social Media

The Court of First Instance presided over by Judge Mohammad Mutlaq Al-Mutairi imposed a fine of KD 3,000 on a youth who was convicted of publishing words deemed offensive and immoral against a woman on social media.

The court ordered the referral of the case to a special civil court. The counsel to the victim Lawyer Mohammad Khaleel Al-Qattan said anyone who incites others to commit immoral activities or assists in doing so through the Internet is liable to be punished by a jail term not exceeding a year any/ or a fine between KD 2,000 and KD 5,000, as per the Cybercrime Law.

Lawyer Al-Qattan also said the law stipulates that illegal access resulting in cancellation, deletion, destruction, change or republication of data or information will attract penalty of two-year imprisonment and/ or fine of KD 2,000 to KD 5,000.

He explained that, in case of illegal access for acquiring confidential personal/government data or information, the violator will be sentenced to three years in prison and/ or fined KD 3,000 to KD 10,000.

Anyone who acquires such data or information with the intention of erasing, destroying, publishing or amending it will face up to ten years in prison and/or a fine of KD 5,000 to KD 20,000. If anyone forges, damages or deletes an electronic system or website, he or she will face jail term not exceeding three years and/or a fine of KD 3,000 to KD 10,000.
