Court Hearing On Disqualified

01 December 2020 Crime News

The Court of Cassation adjourned until Wednesday the hearing on the appeals filed by candidates who were disqualified from the 2020 parliamentary elections. Fifth Constituency candidate Badr Al- Dahoum, one of the disqualified candidates, filed a request to change the board of judges at the Court of Cassation; which will decide on the appeal filed by the government against the verdict of the Court of Appeals to cancel the decision of the Elections Committee on his disqualification from the elections.

He wondered why the lawyers of the government were present during the session on his petition to cancel the disqualification decision. He pointed out the government is not part of the case and it has nothing to do with his petition, adding that the presence of the government’s lawyers in such a session is unprecedented in the history of Kuwait. Former MP and Fourth Constituency candidate Muhammad Haif Al-Mutairi commented on the same issue, indicating the government’s interference and insistence to assign a certain judge to preside over the hearing on this lawsuit puts the judicial authority in a suspicious situation.

He asked HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khalid to clarify the position of the government on the issue.

Meanwhile, Chairman of Trous Center for Middle East Studies Muhammad Al- Thanian disclosed that the results of the survey conducted by the center regarding the Third Constituency candidates showed that Muhalhal Al-Medef is an outstanding opposition and he ranked higher than former MP Abdulwahab Al- Babtein, especially among the youths.

In case Al-Medef wins in the elections, he will be among the top opposition MPs. He is expected to form a harmonious and strong opposition partnership with Abdulkareem Al-Kandari, Al-Thanian added. Former MP and First Constituency candidate Osama Al-Shaheen said the one-man-one-vote system weakened the parliamentary performance, minimized group work and replaced it with the ‘oneman show’. He added such negative outcomes of the one-man-one-vote system are considered advantages on the part of the government.
