10 March 2017 Crime News

In an unprecedented ruling by Kuwait’s judiciary, the civil court has obliged a male divorcee to pay KD 40,000 in compensation to his ex-wife who accused him of infecting her with high risk human papillomavirus (HPV) while they were married, through which she developed cervical cancer. Representing the ex-wife, Attorney Abdul-Mohsin Al-Qattan stated that medical reports have attested the man is the carrier of high risk human papillomavirus by which she suffered cervical cancer. Attorney Al-Qattan noted that medical reports of the Forensic Department confirmed the man is a carrier, indicating he had infected his client through sex, which caused her to remove her womb and losing all hope of ever having children. The court ordered the defendant to pay KD 40,000 in moral compensation for emotional distress his client endured while supporting the medical bills.
