Court Acquitted Egyptian Expat Who Was Accused In State Security Case

The Cassation Court upheld the verdict issued by the Court of Appeals which acquitted an Egyptian expatriate against whom a State Security case was filed for allegedly offending the entity of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait and other state symbols through some posts on his Twitter account. It is worth mentioning that the defense counsel demanded the referral of his client for psychiatric treatment, as the psychiatric report affirmed that he was “crazy and not responsible for his actions”.

According to the case file, the internal security apparatus was alerted by the suspect’s posts on his Twitter account through which he offended the entity of the leadership, state symbols and the people of Kuwait. He also published photographs of the late Iraqi president Saddam Hussein, praising and glorifying him.

The suspect had also posted pictures of the private parts of his body. The security teams conducted investigations to identify him. Armed with an arrest warrant from Public Prosecution, they arrested him and confiscated his mobile phone. The suspect denied putting up those posts and claimed his account was hacked. Security teams affirmed through investigations that his account was never tampered with.
