Court Acquitted An Iranian Expat Who Was Accused Of Attempting To Smuggle Medical Equipment

The Criminal Court acquitted an Iranian expatriate who was accused of attempting to smuggle large quantity of medical equipment and materials worth KD 50,000 out of the country.

According to the case, which went viral on social media, the General Customs Department had received a tip-off that the suspect was planning to smuggle medical equipment and materials out of the country to take to Iran. When the goods were stored inside the warehouse of the suspect’s company, verification of the company’s data revealed that the stored equipment to be imported were specified on the customs document as used materials, foodstuff, clothing items and watercoolers.

However, when the goods were inspected by the Customs officers, they discovered 16 cartons of X-ray machines, seven Xray monitors, one dialysis machine, eight optical diagnosis machines, 19 heart pumping machines, 11 blood testing machines, 14 other medical equipment, 9 cartons of surgical materials, 110 medical X-ray equipment and two sonar bags.
