Court Acquitted An Egyptian Truck Driver Who Was Accused In Smuggling Methamphetamine

The Court of Appeals cancelled the decision of the First Instance Court which sentenced an Egyptian truck driver to five years in prison with hard labor for smuggling Methamphetamine from Iraq to Kuwait for trading, resulting in the acquittal of the accused.

An officer from the Drug Control General Department testified at the Public Prosecution saying the results of secret investigations he conducted showed that the accused smuggled drugs and intoxicants from Iraq. He then requested for a warrant from the prosecution to arrest and search the accused.

However when the accused was arrested and searched, no drugs were found out in his possession. The officer said the accused admitted to possessing drugs and intoxicants in his home and that he brought them from Iraq through Abdally border. Lawyer for the accused, Attorney Ina’am Haidar, argued in court that the warrant issued by the prosecution was based on false investigations. She said case papers do not include the elements of the crimes of smuggling and trading drugs and intoxicants were absent.
