Court Acquitted A Citizen Of Forgery And Embezzling Kd23,000 From The Public Fund

The Criminal Court acquitted a citizen of forgery and embezzling KD23,000 from the public fund. Lawyer for the citizen, Attorney En’aam Haydar, argued that the prosecution failed to provide substantial evidence to prove her client guilty despite the fact that he is already serving jail term for another case, and that the one in question happened while he is in jail which makes it impossible for him to commit such offenses behind bars.

Haydar also indicated that the written communications between her client and the involved parties were proven to have been tampered with, especially the letters sent by two of the involved parties (bank and a company) which did not contain any evidence that her client was behind the forgery or embezzlement.

Meanwhile, the Court of Appeals upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance, which acquitted an Egyptian of peddling in 2,000 Tramadol pills. According to the prosecution officer, he got wind of the suspicious activities of the suspect that he possessed illegal drugs for sale. This prompted him to secure a search and arrest warrant from the Public Prosecution. He later arrested the suspect and searched him leading to the discovery of 20 red pills. The suspect declared that he got the pills from another person, so they moved to the second person who was arrested and searched, hence, the discovery of 1,864 narcotic pills. Lawyer for the defendant, Attorney En’am Haider, condemned the method of arrest and search of her client, while she argued that the investigation was not thorough with insufficient proof. She insisted that the procedure was faulty, because the officer did not obtain a warrant before the initial arrest and search
